JOM “Money! Money! Money!” City of London Tour Wednesday 15 October 2025

Would you take career advice from your cat?  Are the streets of London paved with gold?  Or wool?  Or… Bitcoin?

Come and join JOM members on a fascinating two-hour walking tour of the world-famous City where our official City of London guide, historian and author, Jesus alumna Anne Fletcher, will explain all.

Since its very beginning, the City of London has been a creator of wealth.  From its origins 2,000 years ago as a trading post in the Roman Empire to today it has been vital to the economy of the country.

With this money came power.  On our walking tour we will discover some of the people and institutions that gained both money and power – and hear tales of the unfortunate ones who did not benefit at all.

Our tour begins in the oldest part of the City: there Anne will share fascinating stories about medieval markets, merchants and trade guilds.

Later we will see some of the great financial institutions that grew up to support trade as it went global, including the Bank of England.  And in the hidden alleyways we will discover how coffee led to a financial revolution that changed the world.

Bringing our story right up to date, our tour ends among the spectacular skyscrapers that are the hub of the City’s financial sector today.
