Old Members Day 22nd June 2024

JESUS COLLEGE OLD MEMBERS’ DAY

Saturday 22nd June 2024

Old Members’ Day is in its usual slot in June, and we are looking forward to seeing many of you on the day.

We have three elements to the day.  At the outset we are really pleased to have the Principal with Ge Wang (a DPhil student) talking to us about their recently published paper (with others) concerning the ethical principles in the development of AI for children.

The second half of the morning is a nod to the 100th anniversary of the death of Franz Kafka.  Vice Principal Professor Katrin Kohl who is a co-curator of the Kafka Exhibition (Kafka Making of an Icon) at the Bodleian and Professor Leah Tomkins who is about to launch her new book (Franz Kafka and the Truths of Leadership) will introduce very different takes on Kafka. For both parts of the morning there will be plenty of time for questions

We will have lunch in Hall and as usual it will give an opportunity to chat and catch up with old friends.

In the afternoon there will be the chance to go to the free Kafka Exhibition in the Weston Library at the Bodleian.

The programme is open to all old members and their guests and is organised by Jesus College Old Members’ Group (XL Network) and is timetabled as follows:

10.15   Coffee and tea in Ship Street

10.45   Ethics of the Development of AI for children with the Principal and Ge Wan

11.30   Reflections on Kafka with Prof. Katrin Kohl and Prof. Leah Tomkins

12.35   Pre-lunch drink in the Bastion Ship Street

            13.00   Lunch in Hall

Cost per person is:      £30.00 for coffee, talks, pre-lunch drink, & lunch

At lunchtime guests can buy their own wine at the table.

Please book here as soon as possible (Click for the attached form).

Closing date Tuesday 11th June.

We look forward to seeing you on 22nd June for what should be an enjoyable day.
